Brendon -

If Dec and Motorola want to make Intel chip clones, I see no reason to believe that they should be any more successful than AMD etc. have been. In order to do significant damage, they must offer a product that is >markedly< superior in order for anyone to bother with them. Am I correct?

It seems to me that its in MSFT's best interest to break the INTC hardware standard monopoly if possible, and that they will work with Dec, Motorola, etc., to help them succeed if they can. The key, however, is that their product (from the user's perspective) must be able to use off-the-shelf Intel-standard software.
