I am a little underwhelmed by the lack of credible thinking on this thread re: reasons to be bearish on Dell.

Jason...

So are we. <vbg> However, one might draw some inferences from that very fact. Some possibilities:
a) the bulls have driven them all away
b) the bears prefer to stay on the DELL bear thread
c) it is difficult to present logical grounds to be bearish on DELL

The typical bears come in and say things like DELL is overvalued because
a) it is trading at a new high
b) its PE is currently higher than ever before, and because it has historically traded at a lower PE, it will go down again.
c) it's going to lose market share to CPQ because of the sub-$1000
d) it's going to lose margin because of the price wars
e) PCs are a commodity
f) it is time for a correction
g) it will get killed by the cheaper component prices in Asia
h) it will get killed because the economic conditions in Asia will dry up sales there
i) it must be in trouble because some insider sold $x million dollars of stock (which turns out to be less than 5% of his holdings)
j) it is going to miss earnings because the net PC is taking over
k) the PC market is saturated / mature / oversupplied / dead
l) it will get killed because it doesn't use the AMD/CYRIX/you-name-it chip.
m) it cannot continue its phenomenal growth indefinitely
n) it will get killed because the death DOJI was wearing a turban and had a swastika tattoo.

(Okay, gang, which ones did I miss?)

IMO, the answer to the first question was "c", that it is difficult to articulate a logical bearish argument on DELL. So pick a couple of items from the second list, and you can play devil's advocate.

regards, 3
