Through this maelstrom of wind smoke and ash a single stalwart figure could be seen. Restlessly his blindfolded eyes swept the inside of the blindfold again, he felt trapped. The storms on the Controver Sea were known for their duration and ferocity and this one was shaping up to be a real dilly. The crew, now desperate, beseeched Manaan mac Lir, their pagan sea lord, begging for mercy. Many of the older sailors could feel the strain in their bones as the true fury of the storm unleashed itself.
It was hard to tell when the Captain actually broke, a pepper ball whizzed by close enough to torch his blindfold, snatching it off his head he looked around at the inferno raging below deck and the frantic dog running around barking at the blindfolded crew. It was clear to Mad Jimmy that something had to be done. The NAXOF had lost a large portion of her speed but the howling wind shoved her forwards relentlessly. The caterwauling ropes were in perfect harmony as the wind ripped the weakened sails in streaming ribbons. Only a few of the main sails held with any rigor. The effect of the holding sails was disastrous as the was pushed along keeled over canting her deck and her grimy hull showed. Several sailors fell overboard or were pushed by the cabin boy, who had no fondness for them, the situation was desperate.
