Here are some excerpts from the Merrill Lynch Semiconductor Industry Report by Tom Kurlak and Joseph Osha

"A fundamental shift in the semiconductor industry's primary demand driver appears to be underway. We believe that the 1985-96 era based on personal computing is shifting to a new era driven by telecommunications and internet infrastructure development."

"The future communications/internet era is expected to use a new family of more powerful logic chips including 64 bit microprocessors for server, DSP's for telecom (wired and wireless), and modems, and newer products designed to support communication bandwidth expansion based on ADSL technology, cable modems, and satellite."

"Companies such as Texas Instruments (B-3-1-7) and VLSI Technology (C-3-2-9), for example, have been rapidly restructuring their product portfolios away from PC driven technologies toward these new markets."

"In our opinion, others, such as Intel, AMD and Micron, for example, will have a lot of work to do to re-orient themselves."

"For the rest of 1998, the forces of oversupply, weak pricing and slowing end market growth are expected to continue to depress semiconductor stocks relative to the market."

The statement about TI above is the only one in the report. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
