I'm not so sure, there are a heck of a lot of 480I TV's out there...

There have also been many many surveys lately stating that
the average consumer is far more willing to spend $150 on
a converter than $2K-$3K on a display that will actually
show HD.

It seems that everyone including Teralogic, Panasonic, etc.
recognizes that "downconversion decoding" is an important
capability (at least during the SD-to-HD transition period).
