I attended a Communications Conference last week in NY.
Nicholas Negroponte (Wired columist and Digerati guru) was the luncheon speaker on Wednesday. Negroponte spoke at length about the digital cash niche.

The thinking goes that the next wave in productivy will be agents, aka software programs that in essence execute tasks all over the Network.
Agents will carry digital cash in order to execute tasks. Digital cash seems to be preferable than credit cards because you will be able to encode very specific limitations on each agents use of the digital cash. Digital cash also unleashes the ability to make micro transactions.

Negroponte went on to explain that this niche has been very slow to evolve because they have to get it PERFECT in the early stages. Anything less than PERFECT would be a disaster because the government would shut it down immediately.

So.....onto the point of this post.....

Negroponte stated that there are only a couple of missing pieces in the digital cash puzzle and that one of the important pieces is about to be filled in:-) He said that Cybercash would be making a very important announcement with the next few days.

I also note that the "back of the napkin" score on this comment(especially at my table) was HIGH.
