Answers for Rex,

Rockwell is the original birth place of the GaAs technology. They still have a very fast, albeit expensive process, quite unlike Vitesse as it uses a different transistor type and a CML type cell.
They sell foundry services to Giga, the Danish company that designs the telecom products you mentioned. The result of this arrangement is that Giga is offering the most advanced chipsets today for OC48 and OC192, but their prices are outrageous. When Vitesse finally comes out with its new designs it is likely to take the business from Giga/Rockwell, purely on cost basis. However, this situation is a prescription for lower margins.

>>> Can you define the speeds of the following standards?
OC-12 - 622MHz
OC-48 - 2.488GHz (referred to as 2.5Gig)
OC-192 - 9.952GHz (referred to as 10Gig)

Growth rate? I can only speculate, Slob - can you comment on this one?

In my view, Vitesse is too late for the OC12 biz. AMCC owns it now, and CMOS will be taking over soon. OC48 represents a good opportunity for Vitesse IF it comes out with the products soon (the VSC8161/2 ). They can realize sales of $10M - $20M from this segment in 1999. OC192 is still in its infancy. I don't think Vitesse will have any significant sales here before 2000.

You are welcome,

gda
