CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1998-- Open Text Corporation today announced an extension to its flagship product, Livelink Intranet, that will enable development of tightly integrated solutions for SAP(TM) R/3(TM) enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications. Livelink SDK Extensions allows organizations to enrich their collaborative knowledge management systems with vital information from across the enterprise and add collaboration features to their ERP solutions.

Livelink SDK Extensions for R/3 has dual benefits: it extends Livelink's powerful collaborative knowledge management to R/3 users across the enterprise, while at the same time making the R/3 data accessible within Livelink projects. It allows for increased efficiencies in accessing R/3 data through the Internet and intranet, additional accessibility to information without further rollout of client applications or network infrastructure, and support of mobile users. Users and departments located remotely can connect to Livelink Intranet and combine useful data from R/3 - such as inventory, prices, credit information - with broader and more subjective knowledge from Livelink concerning markets, competitors, products, and support. Users can easily interchange data with other departments, using Livelink's Web-based architecture, to collaborate on such projects as global contract proposals. One department can do the research and all departments can access it, almost immediately.
The extension supplements the Livelink SDK, providing seamless connectivity between the Livelink Server and the R/3 System from within the powerful Livelink application environment. It will provide Livelink application developers with a set of language extensions for connecting to the SAP R/3 Business Application Programming Interfaces (BAPIs) and Remote Function Calls (RFCs) from within the powerful Livelink application environment. These new extensions will be available for linking Livelink documents and Livelink projects to corresponding business objects within R/3 - connecting knowledge workers to powerful functionality simply by pointing their Web browsers at their Livelink Intranet Server. Security measures built into each system will provide consistent access control to both Livelink and R/3.
