Nancy, I was wondering if that might be an issue (about Luther being involved with anti-semitism not what Chris's approval of Luther may be based on). One of the issues that troubled me about the Lutheran church was how quickly it was politicized. Luther and his followers were co opted by the northern German princes as a political weapon to use in their struggles with the Holy Roman Empire. Those princes were anti-semitic, as many European princes were. I know they forced many secular compromises on Luther later in exchange for protection and endorsement. I wasn't sure, but suspected, anti-semitism was one. I don't support that. What I studied when I was still active as a Lutheran was his early writings which were, imo, a purer representation of his origional teachings. The importance of an individual relationship with God.
