BYTES = 8 bits... So a PC which has 32MB of SDRAM/DRAM has:

1) 16 16Mb chips 4Mbx4, or
2) 4 64Mb chips 4Mbx16

"x??" comes from the fact that the PC memory bus is 64bits wide
and if you have just 4 chips each needs 16 bit outputs to fill
the 64bit bus.

TEST... so if you have 8 64Mb chips in a PC in one slot.

1. How many BYTES of RAM do you have?
2. What is the configuration?
3. Is it SDRAM or EDO?

ANSWERS:

1. You got 64MEG BYTES.
2. They need a X8 organization since 8x8=64 so the RAMs
are 8Mbx8
3. Trick questions... since you are only using one slot in
this case you must be using a DIMM since SIMMS are x32 and
you need to have it in pairs... Then the answer is SDRAM
cince only it typically comes on DIMMs

PS: used to be a dram design engineer till I saw the light
and now I design modems.
