A lot of market research depends on whether you are counting unit sales or dollar sales. A lot of what is happening is that Unix is selling fewer workstations, but a lot more servers. Note the percentage growth of Sun and HP. Further, DEC may not have much growth, but internally, it has nearly completely switched from VMS to Unix over the last 5 years. Finally look at the DB vendors and their engine growth. Informix has been running 50-80% growth over the last 2 years, while Oracle has been doing 40% annual growth during the same time. The huge bulk of this is on Unix. This might be a better indication of the enterprise and other development market on Unix.
