BB,

IMHO, FedEx is headed for a higher multiple as a result of the article by Jeffrey Garten, dean of the Yale School of Management, which appeared in the 'Economic Viewpoint' column of the March 23rd issue of Business Week (I receive the European Edition).

Garten says that the current attempt at a globalization of the world economy -- the third in this century -- is irreversible. He bases his case on FedEx, which he says 'both epitomizes this trend and is a driving force behind it'.

According to Garten, FedEx sees itself more as an information-technology company than as a transporter of goods. Its logistical services are being incorporated into a wide range of manufacturing operations around the world, helping to create new kinds of manufacturing -- for example, Dell -- as well as links between economies that are unbreakable.

Mutual funds will be buying FDX this week, for the long term.
