"Night here, now, waning gibbous moon,"

Janice, here is a little test for you.

In one of Margaret Drabble's novels there is a person--a woman, I think--who is floating on her back in a swimming pool at midnight. Directly overhead there is a half moon.

What is your response?

In case this seems sexist, let me add two more examples. In the middle of Anna Karenina, at the end of a day of hunting, Tolstoy has his hero Levin gazing at the planet venus in the western sky. Levin decided to wait until Venus has risen above a tree limb. After this happens, he goes in.

Best of all is the James Bond novel where James is sitting in a bar in Miami watching the sun set "in the broad Atlantic."
