Quarterly Product Update

To: NBase Sales force
From: Yechiel Kurtz
Date: 17 March 1998

Dear NBase colleagues,

Below you will find the quarterly product update, with new and exciting products that are deliverable this quarter. As always with new products, please consult before committing to deliveries of products that have not been officially released. In addition to the new products, we have created a new product and company presentation and additional data sheets in PDF format (NH2002ATM, Gigahub with NBase branding and the XM542/3). All documents are available on the NBase FTP site. A new Q2/'98 pricelist will be released towards the end of March.
We have just released the company's financial results for 1997 of which the networking section, as in Noam's words, 'was the main engine for growth. Once again, our relentless pace of new-product introduction continued unabated -- from 10/100 desktop switches, priced at $99 per port, to award-winning Gigabit Ethernet layer 2 and layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switching products, and the new, chassis-based MegaSwitch 5000'.
We are totally aware of the market situation and the price pressures with our mainstream products, the 10/100 Autosensing and 10/100 switches, and we are reacting as required. Please contact your local NBase sales Mgr. For additional information.

I'm sure you'll find the information below invaluable to your sales efforts and will allow us to 'to shape the future of global networking by providing technology- driven networks with an unprecedented level of service and value to our customers', as commented by Noam.

Best regards,
Yechiel Kurtz

MS5000HD, 6 slot switching system
The MS5000HD continues our tradition of integrating our standalone switching technology into larger chassis based systems. Designed as a superior replacement for the Cisco Catalyst 5000,and other chassis based platforms, this chassis offers densities of up to sixty (60) 10/100 autosensing ports or one hundred and twenty (120) 10 Mbps ports. The MS5000HD is configured as a six (6) slot chassis and offers high end features such as built-in redundant power supplies, a removable fan drawer and a "no-single point of failure" architecture. The first card to be released this quarter will be a twenty (20) port 10/100 autosensing card, to be followed later with a forty (40) port 10 Mbps card and a ten (10) port 100BaseFX card. Pricing for the MS5000HD chassis will be around $2500 and the 10/100 autosensing, 100BaseFX and the 10BaseT modules will be priced around $350, $600 and $125/port respectively.

EM3012FE-16TP, 16 port 10/100 Autosensing module for the GFS 3012
The GFS3012 Gigabit Ethernet switch will receive a strong boost with the near release of the EM3012FE-16TP switching card. This switching card provides 16 10/100 Mbps Autosensing ports, complementing the Gigabit Ethernet modules for power users and workgroup connectivity. Pricing will be in the range of $300 - $350/port and the modules will be available in the March/April timeframe.

NH2012RFO, 12 port 100BaseFX switch
Based on the NH2012R architecture, this unit provides NBase with one of the only 100 Mbps fiber optic switches in the market. The base unit is configured with eight (8) 100BaseFX ports with two uplink slots for NH2002 uplinks. Estimated list price is around $5500 for the base unit. The NH2012RFO will be available towards the end of Q1.

NH1026, 10/100 Mbps stackable hub
The NH1026 is a 24 port 10/100 Mbps hub offered in managed or unmanaged versions. One of the most advanced 10/100 hubs in the market the NH1026 senses the speed on each of its 24 ports and automatically sets the port speed to either 10 or 100 Mbps. Switching between the 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps segments is implemented in an ASIC, ensuring wire speed performance. In addition, these units can be stacked up to 8 units/stack, offering a density of up to 196 ports/stack. But the feature list doesn't end here; only one managed unit is required to manage an entire stack; used as a standalone hub, the NH1026 an be configured as a 24 port 10/100 Mbps autosensing hub with two (2) additional 10/100 autosensing switched ports for local server or backbone connectivity. The NH1026 and modules will be available in the march/April timeframe with a list price of around $1800 for the managed unit and $1300 for the unmanaged version. Stacking modules and Dual port switching modules will be available at the same time with list prices starting around $150.

DirectIP switches
The NH228IPS, DirectIP version of the NH228 has been successfully installed in several networks, lending credibility to our IP switching implementation. Last week we released the NH228XIPS and we will follow with the NH2016IPS and the NH2024IPS in two-three weeks time. To emphasise the fact that IPS switches have the same layer 2 capabilities as the non-IPS versions, we are using the exact same chassis as the non-IPS products with a special DirectIP symbol on the front panel. In order to entice customers to purchase the IPS switch version, the IPS switches are affordably priced starting at $5500 for the NH2016IPS-16TP and $6650 for the NH2024IPS. A DirectIP version of the NH2032 (NH2032IPS) is planned for release towards the beginning of Q2/98.

NH2032:
The NH2032 has been initially released with a limited software version namely CLI support. We are announcing the availability of version 1.2.5, which brings the NH2032 to par with all the MegaSwitch family. The NH2032 now supports the following features; SNMP management; RMON statistics; Spanning tree; Port based security and broadcast domain VLANs; Cut through switching option; Port mirroring and Support for the EM2032-2FO 100Base-FX uplinks. We are including upgrade instructions with all EM2032-2FO modules to facilitate switch upgrade to support the FO modules. Upgrade instructions will be posted on the FTP site, with the location to be announced by the CSO.

NH2024, EM2024ATM and EM2024ISDN modules
Pricing for the NH2024 was set to be very aggressive from the start, but we have further reduced the price to $4750 to meet the market trends. The NH2024 offers a higher level of performance and expandability options compared to the BayStack 350T-HD and other comparable products. Reaching a maximum density of 32 10/100 Autosensing ports, the NH2024 is still the density king of the market, and to even more differentiate the product from it's competition, we are aiming to release the EM2024-ATM module this quarter. Pricing for the EM2024ATM will be the same as for the NH2002ATM, starting at $2785 for Multimode fiber.
We are opening a totally new and exciting opportunities with the near release of the EM2024ISDN module. This expansion module will incorporate a WAN router with an ISDN interface, allowing connectivity to the Internet through the 10/100 switch. The modules will be available in the March/April timeframe and we will follow up with more information and pricing the nextcoming weeks.

NH2002FD & EM2024FD
The NH2002FD (NH2012 FDDI uplink) is going through its last debug phases and first customer shipments will commence shortly. We'll start with a limited quantity, so please have your orders in as soon as possible so we can update our forecasts. Pricing will remain as listed in the current pricelist. Once released for the NH2012, a similar module, the EM2024FD will follow in Q2.
