Hi.... The Telechoice news specified that the TI/AMTX solution would be available in or around the end of the 1Q97. In the announcement ATMX also states that the MOT solution will be available in that same time frame.

Now on the issue of "FULLY COMPLIANT". For a solution to be fully compliant, 'i believe' we need to talk about ANSI T1.413 category 2 ADSL modems. I'm going on memory here, but 'i don't believe' the AWRE/ADI is category 2 compliant. I have the MOT Semiconductor technical data specs on the CG MC145650 transceiver in front of me. Here is the what MOT talks about:

"The category 2 specification requires payload rates of (6.144Mbps + 640Kbps) downstream and 640kbps upstream, with crosstalk, over carrier serving (CSA) range loops, and to achieve (1.544Mbps + 176kbps) downstream and 176kbps upstream with crosstalk, over selected ANSI integrated services digital network (ISDN) loops. The payload makeup is flexible therby allowing multiple data streams to be multiplexed and demultiplexed."

Now .... would i expect the TI/AMTX solutions to be category 2 compliant by the end of 1Q97? No, not really... The news release specified that AMTX and TI will provide their core ADSL technology based on their respective DMT technologies. We are talking about < 5 months until the end of 1Q97. This doesn't sound like alot of time. I would be happy to see the MOT category 2 compliant CG and a Non-standard TI/AMTX solution by the end of 1Q97.

Also I would like to understand what makes the MOT CG "sacrifice flexibility for cost and standard compliance " .... This is from the RS&Co statement. I would really like to here others views on this. I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the technology here....

I also agree that this was great news for AMTX and TI and Again i would like to thank techie for posting the information..... Until later...
