Sankar, I was in your no-TA camp until recently. It would be a
mistake to expect TA to predict sudden changes in a company's
circumstances - such as earnings shortfalls. Enough traders use TA
and act on certain signals, such as the crossing of moving
averages, to make it a useful tool - sometimes. I believe there
are some government agencies that use TA to try to predict grain
futures:

I remain cautious, but do not dismiss TA. After
using fundamental analysis to choose a stock, TA can
help find advantageous entry or exit points -
if the company does not pre-announce.<g>

I would not try to persuade anyone to use one method
or another. Too much depends on unknowable factors.
The book Ken cited is of interest mainly because of
its treatment of investor psychology.
