The 'in a nutshell' version of DM positioning: Category 1 Av $500-$1000 per seat (Traditional DM Vendors) DCTM (started in pharmaceutical industry) DOCSF (started in legal industry) FILE diversified suite seller (started in imaging) All of these have some bolted on net capability Category 2 OTEXF Intranet based ... much more complete collaboration features, considerably cheaper than Category 1, but lacking some 'true document management features' Category 3 (the new boys in town) Groupware based DM Lotus Domino.doc Document Management Extensions for MS Exchange FrontOffice (to be released) Eastman DMX (to be released) All of the Category 3 systems are very cheap in comparison to OTEXF and Category 1 but are yet to be proven.
