BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1998--Boca Research, Inc. (NASDAQ:BOCI) today announced it is shipping BocaVision(tm), a Boca-branded set top Internet access device, which enables Internet access through the use of a monitor or television and an analog telephone line. "Today's announcement marks an important strategic milestone for our Company," said Henricus Cox, Boca's Vice President of Marketing. "This is not just another new product announcement for Boca Research. Our vision is that there is a huge market for Internet access devices in corporate settings as well as in the home, and we are one of the first players to address the needs of the corporate environment. We want to be in this emerging market and play a leading role in it. We are well positioned to do so because we are one of the few companies actually manufacturing these devices in volume. Our relationship with Citrix demonstrates our commitment to add value to these products and, at an estimated street price of under $400, we have created a compelling reason for consumers to buy," Mr. Cox concluded. To further enhance its set top box technology, Boca is incorporating Citrix's Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(R)) into the product. Larry Light, Boca's Vice President of Engineering, stated, "Enabling BocaVision to become a fully Windows(R)-capable workstation, revolutionizes the set top Internet access device market. Our unit works in conjunction with the Citrix WinFrame(R) server software, providing end-users remote access to most Windows Applications. A user in a remote office location or at home can perform all the activities typically associated with a desktop PC. These applications include, but are not limited to, remote usage of Microsoft Office(tm), Lotus Notes(tm), Internet Explorer(tm), or any corporate specific application which may be hosted on the NT/Server. "Essentially, we've expanded the usefulness of BocaVision to the limitless supply of server-based application software. The benefits to corporate customers of Citrix's thin-client/server architecture have been well established, and our extension of this technology into the SOHO market is an exciting development indeed," Mr. Light concluded. Boca Research has manufactured set top Internet access devices since mid-1997 for a major consumer electronics company. In 1997, the Company announced a design agreement with another company, Acorn Group, to develop, manufacture and co-brand set top Internet access devices. Also in 1997, Boca entered into agreements with Coollogic, a Dallas-based technology provider of TV and/or PC-based Web access terminals and low-cost PC workstations, and LocalNet Broadcast Network, a multi-level marketing organization, which is using the customized product as a training tool for its sales force. BocaVision's hardware and operating system configurations allow easy adaptation for product integration into the office, home, or for specific applications. Featured is an open Internet service provider (ISP) architecture that provides for an integrator and/or user's choice of an ISP. The current BocaVision product is targeted at vertical markets such as value-added resellers, ISPs, product integrators, etc. For additional information about the product, visit Boca Research's web site at www.bocaresearch.com.
