Is ATM a stop-gap until adsl rides the waves. No. ATM is on the backbone and even if it's taken to the desk-top, you still need a mode of transportation for the data to ride and that's where ADSL comes in. If you read the MSFT/INTC/CPQ consortium specs you'll see they specify ATM and ADSL/DMT. Therer's a company out of Dallas who has already developed ATM/ADSL for the PC. This is what Siemens is doing with TXN, too. And I believe NN will use its MainStreetXpress alliance, not develop it separately. At least that's how I understand it.
