$300 million figure was just an amount to start discussion. With any kind of capital investment of any size I would expect the investor to get a significant say in operations and several seats on board of directors. DD makers are currently in a race to become more cost effective manufacturers and that could be beneficial for IOM. Will it happen, probably not. It might happen without IOM management approval if stock price remains low.

I think that the extra $1.5 to 2 billion sales though would help SEG or WDC to recover some of the old glory. Remember SEG is expected to do a IPO of its Software division later this year. Sale part of Seagate Software use proceeds to invest in IOM or other acquisitions. It would help IOM with street credibility. Is it best long term for IOM? depends if they can keep Zips selling and have ability to develop new products.
