If I am a vice-president of a company and I believe the company has a great future, why wouldn't I want to buy shares in my company? From my present vantage point the company's situation looks good. Like other investors, I can not predict the future ( I might be wrong). There is nothing crooked about this buying which I have to report to the SEC for all to see. Often insiders make the same mistakes as we "outsiders" do. The problem arises when someone in the company tells his friends about surprise earnings, new technological developments, a pending takeover, or misstated financial information.
