Hi Frederick,
More power to ya! Its nice to see some grassroots action against Microsoft's multiple industry stifling monopolies. As a person in the industry it is absolutely frustrating to see how Microsoft uses its tactics that only a company with a virtual monopoly can get away with.
Its so encouraging to see the DOJ actions that are happening, but, if these grassroots actions don't also occur then my fear is that Microsoft will simply get another slap on the wrist and continue to oppress the industry into a one vendor solution. Think about it people - one network operating system, one desktop operating system (already has happened), one desktop office suite (thats all but here now), one set of internet applications, etc. And the big fear is that Bill Gates clearly doesn't want to stop at the technology field. Internet content, ISP on-ramp services, media, entertainment, etc.
This has got to stop! Not only for the sake of the computer industry, but for the well being of the corporate world, and the lives of people in general. No healthy competition in the computer industry sends ripples throughout every corner of our world.
Since I'm on the Novell thread then I will put a Novell slant in here somewhere. I completely fail to understand why Novell executives like Schmidt are not more actively supporting the DOJ actions. They are in the same boat as SUN and Netscape in that they have nothing to lose in fighting Microsoft in public. They currently are not in Microsoft's favor where they risk the loss of some grace from Microsoft. The majority of other vendors will not take open action against Microsoft for fear of Microsoft reprisals (increased OS licensing costs and/or other restrictions that would make the non-conformant become un-competitive). Novell is a clear enemy to Microsoft. Therefore, Novell shouldn't stand around like a deer in front of a set of headlights waiting for the Microsoft 18-wheeler to run it over.
Anyways Frederick, Cudos to you (wish I could help in some way).
PS - you keep mentioning MF. What is MF?
