That is your number, not mine. The break even on a large heap leach is around $6-7 per ton, Do not forget that a cubic yard is about 2.5 tons and at 1.41 gram per ton has 3.5 grams, or just over 0.1 ouncesgrams in it. and at $300 per ounce = $32.00 approx.
You break even at around $20.00 per cubic yard, and for some ground that crushes cheap and can be ripped and leaches easily you can go to $12 per cubic yard at the utmost(IMO).
All you do to leach it is make a clay pad with drainage to a lower common point(this pad should be made so that there is zero leakage and has an emergency catchment) crush the ore to the leach size optimum and pile on the pad in large long rows and pump leach liquid over the pile for as long as it takes to get the economic end point. The leach liquid is recirculated and extraction chemicals are added as needed to get it done. At some poin you extract the gold from the leaching liquid and neutralize the cyanide and send your removed gold for refining(impure mix of misc metals and stuff) A large mine might have 12 pads and you fill one a month, start the leach and then do #2 and #3 and when you reach 1 again if the gold has been removed to your satisfaction you remove the extracted stuff to a tailing fill-in area that depends on your closure plan and state of the mine. And you do this again and again until all the gold is extracted. Depending on the mine size and lifetime the equipment is sized accordingly. Large Companies like PDG want large amounts of gold annually, and so often use an 8-12 year extraction plan. The faster you make it the bigger the plant and the more it costs and the more you leave behind when you close it. Smaller companies try to optimise at longer timetable as it costs less and the usual equipment is rated for 25 years when maintained accordingly as that takes less capital. PDG can get capital and want to keep their numbers up.
If they need a bacterial oxidation phase the layout is varied??
