With regard to the channel stuffing, I think they were simply planning for success. Think what dufuses they would have been with all that x2 hype, if they didn't have enough in the channel to make every sale they could. As I remember it, it was shaping up as a battle for market share, which they basically seem to have won, but with all the FUD about last year, wasn't so clear. And of course the FUD and no standard seems to have turned out to have made the overall market smaller.
