HP Delivers Thinnest, Lightest Notebook PC Ever; New HP OmniBook Sojourn Notebook PC Sets the Pace for Ultraportable Design March 19, 1998 PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced the thinnest, lightest high-performance notebook PC available. Weighing in at just over 3 pounds and measuring less than three-quarters of an inch thick, the HP OmniBook Sojourn notebook PC boasts state-of-the-art technology and an attractive, functional design for the mobile executive.
"The HP OmniBook Sojourn notebook PC complements our broad line of corporate-focused notebook PCs," said Richard Archuleta, general manager of HP's Mobile Computing Division. "The focus here is innovation: innovation that is producing exciting products today while providing a glimpse of where HP OmniBook notebook PCs are headed tomorrow."
"Executives and senior managers need a notebook that works when they do, goes where they go and reflects their professionalism," said Taia Ergueta, worldwide marketing manager for HP's Mobile Computing Division. "HP also has designed a special service and support program for the HP OmniBook Sojourn notebook PC that ensures high productivity on and off the road."
The HP OmniBook Sojourn notebook PC's sleek, metallic-blue magnesium case couples cutting-edge design with exceptional rigidity and durability. New technologies, such as a super-thin keyboard and a thin LCD display, enable a notebook PC package that is slimmer and lighter than most executive's file folders.
Within this thin and light package, the HP OmniBook Sojourn notebook PC delivers the desktop computing power of Intel Corporation's 233MHz Pentium(R) Processor with MMX(TM) technology and 2.1GB of storage on its hard-disk drive. The HP OmniBook Sojourn notebook PC ships with 64MB of RAM, 256KB of L2 cache, a 12.1-inch SVGA active matrix display and a 128-bit NeoMagic graphics controller with 2MB video RAM. Also part of the HP OmniBook Sojourn notebook PC system is an attachable expansion "slice," a peripheral unit that affixes to the bottom of the base unit. The slice includes a 24X CD-ROM drive, a floppy-disk-drive and full I/O ports. An optional battery expansion slice adds another 4.5 hours of battery life to the system.
The HP OmniBook Sojourn notebook PC system is expected to ship to customers in April and is expected to sell for about $5,799. |
