I am reminded of the adage " There are rich traders and there are old traders; but, there are no rich, old traders".

Depends what contacts a trader has. If he just blindly sits at his desk and maybe reads the Wind TA thread on SI than he probably doesn't have much of a chance. If he is talking with the market makers and is friends with the analysts then he probably has a chance at being successful.
