To All, I just came from a meeting with Novell people, they hinted that a deal was in the making with 6 major companies, they would not give me any company names or what the deal is but it sounded BIG, I was told to "watch this space" in the next 30+ day's!!!, it looks like the "I hate Microsoft club"....now let me speculate...ORCLE, SUN, IBM, NETSCAPE...?? anyone with any Ideas? (they said good things about Netscape????) I think this may have something to do with Oracle's NCA stuff as per previous rumors but much more (I hope so!).
Also they will be spending 10% of our money on marketing around ($100 Million) and are preparing TV spots. Additionally ASIA/Pacific area is to receive the largest increase in Budget...they are targeting this as the next big growth area...and their right...Novell is eating them up in China for instance (I think the Chinese like the corporate colours!!!) overall I was advised that they are loosing up the money more than ever...ABOUT TIME! you need to spend money to make money.
I think you'll be happy with Marangi he has only had the job for 6 weeks, I know we have been asking for miricles but give the guy a chance (for me at least until end November!).
Also the positioning with JAVA is hot! - people in this industry still don't understand the implications of JAVA on Netware and rave on about NLM's are difficult to develop..who cares!!(check out Corel Office for JAVA at their web site - hot!)...missing the point...Novell has what JAVA is lacking "Network Services" IE: Directory, Print, Secutity..."IF" NOVL do this right then we are unstopable in the next revolution of Network Computing....
The big "IF" is execution, it is all there for the taking, if Novell screw's this up (I am not expecting them to, I have $$$$$ invested) it will all be clear by end of 1st Quater, and good signals in the next 30+ day's...if they fail to execute let's get together and sue their asses!
