Thanks for the lively response.

I don't believe that correlational studies and specifically, that the research linking APP and presenilin mutations/ aluminum & zinc/ estrogen/ APOE are worthless. I would say though that they don't always enable us to sort clearly cause from effect (i.e. amyloid deposition and neurodegeneration, ACh and AD progression).

To be more explicit, I wouldn't invest my time or money into research towards pharmacological interventions aimed at ACh as I intuitively feel that they are downstream of more worthy candidates for positive intervention/prevention of AD.
