OCTOBER DRIVE FOR UK DVD-VIDEO

The much-delayed grand launch of DVD-Video in the UK has been deferred until October, although players and software will go on sale in April, Inside Multimedia can reveal. A UK DVD Committee has been set up to coordinate the launch, chaired by Simon Turner of Philips Research Labs.

All the key players are represented. On the hardware side are Philips, Toshiba, Sony and Panasonic, with the backing of the British Radio and Electrical Manufacturers Association (BREMA). On the software side the committee has pulled together a wide range of vendors, including Warner Home Video, MGM, Columbia TriStar, Warner Vision and Polygram, with the support of the British Video Association.
