>> That is what the common man sees. Apple $2499 and Wun Hung Low's corner shops at $1249.00 for a similar system. <<
I'm going to take issue with your sentiment here, Bill. I believe people are quickly sickening of "similar" to Apple. We run 3 WinTels in our house. Talk about the same old sauce... We are starved for a computer that responds like an appliance. This business of downloading and installing drivers, modifying the config.sys, etc., rebooting after a crash, yada-yada. It never ends. Pretty soon we're gonna have a system that, if it crashes, it's broken. Take it in and get your money back. What's up with this rebooting business? Hope you got Norton, etc. Upgrade your outdated Norton backup, etc. This is silly. Mankind has the technology to invent a computer, why can't he invent one that works? Hello?
And so, many of us are looking for the cure. You tell me. Do you work on a Mac? The guy down on the corner with the $1,249.00 WinTels is selling science projects. How quaint. I want a gosh darn plug-n-play-n-work computer. Underline work. I already have a bunch of subs that don't- not without rebooting several times a day, etc. If I gotta pay $2,495.00 for a real one, let's go.
So I'm betting there's a niche for Mac. I believe WinTel has created a void that they can't fill. A 400Mhz WinTel is still a science project that needs to be surrounded by a computer and expensive third party software just to keep it working. When was the last time you rebooted your refrigerator or your toaster?
Wintel's the disease...
