I would not be surprised if they have overstated the problem so that they can show a small profit for the quarter. They knew about this problem long before the pre-announcement. They made the announcement on Friday after the market close, and on Wednesday I get a nice six page color brochure with all the business computers they have on sale, complete with lease payments. From my experience it takes two weeks for the printers to even make a brochure like that. This has all been pre-planned. Secondly I think a lot of funds that don't want to have cpq in their portfolio at the end of the quarter will be buying it back after the new quarter starts. If cpq is right and only the first two quarters are flat, and the stock price is around $20 the funds will not wait until the 3rd quarter and pay $25 plus. All the experts from the research departments were telling us everything was ok after these sale brochures were already in the mail.
