->Although it may not be much consolation in situations as you describe, Cabletron's service and support is second to none, according to customer satisfaction surveys.

This is now true. It was a very refreshing change to ask
Cabletron tech support about issues and actually get some real answers. Either their tracking system has improved, or they have changed their 'stonewalling' policy, maybe a combination. In any case, I have noticed a grand improvement in the last months, an honesty that seems to have propagated throughout the company.

Unfortunately it was too late for us, though we were not too far in the hole, and Cabletron is now offering to swap the new cards for the newer ones when they are available, for an upgrade fee.

It just remains to be seen whether they can execute before they miss an important window.

->Yet Alunni then comes out recently and BLASTS Cisco for not delivering as promised. He goes on the explain in detail the marketing tactics Cisco has employed to stall their customer base until the gap is bridged and the functionality as promised is delivered. Read on:

I see what can be derived from these documents, but Cisco did not explicitly state that they would market any pre-standard products. I highly doubt that Cisco has anything to worry about in that regard. Most of the little Gig startups will fizzle or be absorbed. And unlike Cabletron, Cisco has a workaround for nearly all of their bugs or weaknesses, and a good follow through on what they say. I have not experienced the' Dilbert principle' with Cisco nearly as much as with Cabletron. (I have more tales) The comparison is not apples-to-apples.

BTW.. Thanks for the documents and info. Cabletron sent the latest paper to me already, but I haven't seen the older one until now.
