<< What do you consider good selection criteria for biotecs? >>

Longer term: Many recent posts provided great insights on this topic.

My question is, suppose you had great selection criteria and came up with a list of ten biotechs that were likely to succeed. Even then, what would be the likelihood that even just a few of these would take off and show a great return for the following year?

Which is a better way of picking stocks ... looking for a great record of scientific discoveries, trials, lots of products in the pipeline, partnerships with respected companies? Or looking for other factors, such as a track record of great earnings and a trend of increasingly successful earnings?

Perhaps history is no guide here. Perhaps we are on the verge of scientific breakthroughs and many, many biotechs will soon start to explode like fireworks. Perhaps I am unaware of the extent to which this is already happening.

I don't know the answers to these investment questions, but they interest me and I would like to hear what various people here think.

If a college student asked me what I thought about a career in biotech I would tell them it would be great, because over the next forty years I think this is going to be big. For investing, I'm wondering how things will be over the next year and how these opportunities compare to others.
