The main reason I'm in puts right now is that it carries less risk than shorting stocks, although puts have drawbacks as you've mentioned. An experience with puts reminded me of a friend I went to Vegas with. I had some January puts that ended up just barely in the money, but not enough to cover the premium. It's like my friend who lamented that the college basketball team he bet money on in Vegas won the game, but not by enough to beat the point spread... Paul McGinnis
