Sean,

I must admit that your response has a number of good points
about the difference between corperate and academic environment.
I bought a Sparcstation 20 two years ago and is one
of the very few people actually upgraded its CPU early this
year. We do enjoy substantial discount from SUN on hardware
and software. My concern is that with the wave of Java
and SUN is making all the new goodies available only
in Solaris 2.5.1, it is hard not to switch to Ultra platform.
And if Ross is having trouble persuding people to buy
their CPU or workstations now, they will have more
trouble next year.

Personally, I think Pentium Pro PC provide the best performance/cost
for running Solaris, but Sun is not making it too easy to
install the operating system on PC( perhaps on purpose).
