I'm not sure that HP is subverting JAVA. It has been my limited experience that the financial press doesn't always understand the technology they write about. I remember IBM cancelling their plans for NetPC's and the financial community penalizing the NC companies when in fact it was a very positive move in favor of NC's over PC's. My reading of HP's press release is that they developed a Java Virtual machine for embedded devices that follows the Java standard and added their value with special classes (never intending to be "write once, run anywhere" in order to provide greater functionality and speed for embedded devices). In some sense, how can an embedded device have the same functionality of a workstation and vi-versa. The contention with Microsoft is that they market their special classes as 100% Pure Java when in fact it doesn't adhere to write once, run anywhere.

I too look forward to Addi's point of view.
