Mephisto, Mr. Al-Fayed USED to run one of their big horse races. After Diana died, they stripped him of this prestigious post. From what he says the British royal family is very racist. Prince Phillip has said horrendously racist things publicly, actually, that were very offensive and were reported in the press. Diana's father, Lord Spencer, was apparently way ahead of his time in having friends and associates outside of the insular British upper class, and he was Mr. Al-Fayed's true friend. Perhaps that is where Diana got her inclusive ideas. I don't think she thought about color at all when she made friends.

I think the royal family will do whatever it has to do to survive. Their lack of interest after her death, completely misjudging public reaction and not even wanting to have any public funeral, would certainly go along with the murder theory, but isn't proof that's what happened. It is easy to see how Mr. Al-Fayed would have a selfish interest is promoting this version of events, since he is trying to avoid liability as owner of the Ritz Hotel. But no, it did not take them that long to get Diana out of the car. The ambulance just sat there forever and ever, trying to get her stabilized, massaging her heart, which according to the American cardiologist is the very worst thing that could have been done for her. On the other hand, it seems to be the philosophy of French emergency medicine to proceed in this way.

One of the interesting things I read in considering all this is that twenty or thirty years ago the Americans treated accident victims in the same way, but then developed the faster way of getting them to hospitals which just involves stabilizing the spine and getting an IV started, and more lives are being saved.

So it is a really complex situation. But the British Secret Service is highly skilled and can be a very ruthless organization. If there was some plot by the royals, I sincerely doubt that it involved anyone but the Queen. I do not see Charles as even remotely being that nefarious. But the fact is that Diana's romance with Dodi, especially if she was pregnant and/or engaged to him, would have sent serious shock waves through the royals, and their goal is preserving the monarchy at any cost. So who really knows? Certainly there was enough material for a book, at least.
