Oh no!!! When Michael said he had declawed his gerbil I was thinking totally selfishly. Of course it is much better to have a declawed gerbil living in your bra than any other kind.

But of course I am against declawing of any species, and I am sure I have written numerous soporific essays on the subject already, so I won't bore anyone again with them. But really, from the animal's experience it is like having your fingers and toes cut off, and the recovery is very painful and fraught with the danger of serious infection. Blah, blah, blah . . . and if your beloved animal gets lost he cannot protect himself against predators . . . blah, blah, blah . . . most veterinarians in SF would not even consider performing this butchery . . . blah blah blah.

Anyway, I did think it appropriate that I at least attempt the short version, since I am morally responsible for this gerbil. Speaking of which, Jeff, were we going to split the reward or something? That would make it your turn to diaper the little precious!!!
