One of the first things that I would consider before buying an
electric bicycle is whether or not it is as free-rolling as an
ordinary pedal bicycle, unless I did not plan to pedal it at all, in
which case an electric motorcycle makes more sense to me.

If the BAT Electrobike uses a brush type DC motor in the front wheel, it could have some friction drag due to the brushes. Pedalling an Electrobike with a discharged battery could be a lot of work if this is true.

If I get an invitation to the Open House, that is something I will try to find out. The other thing is the cost and availability of replacement batteries.

And are they metal hydride type batteries or zinc air batteries that
have to be taken to a special place for recycling the depleted
zinc?

Every technology is based upon supporting infrastructure. I generally wait until almost everyone has any given technology before buying into it. By that time, all the bugs should be worked out. Or it will
fail and pass into oblivion.

But one thing is certain: that all good things come to those who wait.
