Reflectors:

Dr. Levy could you reflect me over to some technical info on what exactly is an LMDS reflector. Are they un-powered? What are they made of? Are they capable of being highly directionalized? This may be the great saving grace of LMDS if the answers are there. I remember (about 8 years ago) AT&T was looking to put small digital 900 MHz transmitters on telephone poles all over the place (NYC) as a way of getting in the local loop. They figured the NYNEX rental cost was one dollar per pole per month. I don't think NYNEX liked the idea too much and raised close to three zillion objections with the FCC.

My thinking is like this: A lot of people in NYC who live on the upper floors of apartment houses have clear LOS to CVUS transmitters. Why not give these people some sort of price beak to also put in a small reflector so that all the nice people on the opposite side of the street could get a strong bounce signal? And maybe another to reach the lowers floor in the first building etc.
