Lucent Technologies [LU] will acquire Hewlett-Packard Co.'s [HP] business unit and launch a wireless broadband networks division in Milpitas, Calif., later this year.

Financial terms of the deal, which is expected to close in in the second quarter, were not disclosed.

The Lucent division will design, manufacture and deploy wireless broadband networks based on technology from HP, Bell Labs and Silicon Valley partners. Lucent will offer high-speed data, video and voice services to businesses.
