All caused by feature creep. Which is now a thing of the past with
the $1000 PIIs, Windows 98, Voodoo II, Intel i740, Riva 128 zX on the market.

Also with MPRS now developing for the Sega Katana and the Sony PSX
2000, the future looks more stable. Although WORMS on the current PSX
and N64 might sell a few more millions.
