Hi, everyone... God! I miss one day and I'm reduced to the equivalent of a clip show.
Since I'm "responding" to MSB, I should address the question of blasphemy; or, rather, I should let my New Shorter Oxford (I'm too lazy to go downstairs and get the OED). Blasphemy: Profane talk of something supposed to be sacred; impious irreverence. I don't think my using "God!" is blasphemy. By the KJV it could be interpreted as breaking the 3rd commandment (Ex 20:7). I prefer, however, the idea that the 3rd commandment is really saying not to use the name of God for a false purpose (see "The Five Books of Moses" by Everett Fox).
Der is male, das is female, I forget what's neuter. I find it interesting that boat is female both in German - das boot - and conceptually in English - ar! she's a fine ship.
Greystone, you can call me Greg. Or I can call you Betty and you can call me Martin. Or I can call you Malcolm and you can call me Al. :-)
Ah! The Lord of the Rings makes an appearance. Cool! A bit of interesting trivia... Tolkien is also known for having written an extraordinarily "right-wing" or "upper-class" commentary on (or was it a translation of) the Bible. Look at TLOTR and consider how it is that only the well-to-do hobbits and the of-high-birth others are the heroes. By-the-by, Greystone, when you fight the Balrog, will you become Whitestone?
And, finally, what's all this controversy about the name of Jesus being Yeshua? I've clearly missed the beginning. I looked up "Jesus" in Strong's Concordance and this is what I found. Jesus, almost always, is translated from Iesous; from Hebrew origin: Yehowshuwa or Yehowshua, Jehovah-saved, Jehoshua (i.e., Joshua), the Jewish leader, Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua. Which brings me to my second and last piece of trivia of this post. In "I, Claudius", Jesus is referred to as Joshua bar Joseph.
Oh, shoot! I just remembered die is female and das is neuter. Which blows my pirate quote out of the water.

:-)

Greg
