Keep it up ToySoldier:

>>I'm gonna make a prediction (call it ESP) that your IT decision makers made this decision purely on the industry trend DeJure (i.e. "well everyone else appears to be going that way, so will we") and not based on true Business Requirements Gap Analysis followed up by a Solution Alternatives Cost/Benefit Analysis.>>

Right on.... I posted some of the following over on MF earlier today:

One thing Microsoft knows acutely well is that the "quiet army" - Vinod you're one of them - in IT/IS-land can be completely bolled over, sold above and around - even just taken as nonexistent when it comes to building their "mindshare" based on "false-promises", lies, etc.

The vast majority of the intelligent people working in the NOS world just want peace and quiet - a good environment to work in, no hassles - and the continual intelletual challenge that comes with being involved in something exciting and new. These people don't have time to market, grandstand, wine, dine, etc. This is a non-marketing, non-selling environment. Microsoft has almost had the field all to itself.

Microsoft knows the value of putting market and sales savvy individuals into the technology mix. Buzz word heaven....here they come talking circles around higher execs that do not have a clue. Sell the power of the MS brand - period. Leave all these technies behind until they are forced to follow - kicking and screaming - decisions made by their higher-ups.

Gates amd Balmer know all information/marketing/understanding gaps as if they were on the back of thier hands. Their current target audiences for enterprise technology decisions are higher execs who just don't know better.

So what happens. Again, as we all know so painfully well, better technology does not win against such tactics. It's the old Apple vs. MS story all over again. What's different this time is the magnitude of the task/market MS has targeted - enterprise systems. I really think MS has bit off way more than it can chew on in this area. And the results in terms of higher costs, etc. have just begun to pour in.

Take some time to read through the recent NetFusion thread offered up by Joe just recently. We all know Joe has stepped off his Novell soapbox, but he didn't even have enough life to note the one common denominator from this thread - ie. from a pure technology perspective, Netware wins hands down. Note those who support NT - their arguments, spelling, etc. are shallow. MS has backed-hyped itself into the brave new world of the corporate enterprise. NT will surivive, grow and prosper, but there is more than enough room for Novell to do the same moreso going forward.

The market for network operations and network services is going to be huge, huge, huge. Schmidt has the right focus. The BOD will be cleaned out in another 2-3 months. We have a great catalyst on our hands right now - new NOS release, BorderManager winning awards/sales right and left, NDS achieving critical acclaim and penetration, this Z.E.N. works product that is really interesting - will comment more on later - and a corporate board that is
changing with Noorda's leadership.

Just sit back and watch. If you are one of the technicians out there, don't throw in the towel. There are other "Joes" out there who, while believing in Novell, have just moved along with the tide.

>>If they did, I truly believe that your organization would not be making this decision (I blabbed about this whole topic about a week ago - look up if your interested). Your organization has become yet another NT Lemming - watch out for that cliff!>>

Yes, another NT Lemming.... Sad, but true, what can you do. I say, blab and blab on.
