Jock: If "stopgap" is 5-7 years then we are fine as we will have a nice long product cycle with DVD. HD-ROM for at least the next few years is a niche market. It won't make it into the mass consumer arena for at least that number of years. I've seen plenty of storage companies come and go - Pinnacle Micro is one that is now bankrupt or close to it. In addition with the momentum behind DVD we are fine.

Yes it is about 50 movies. Now I think we have something around 700-1000(?) titles out at this time. This means just around 20 HD-ROMs can use all those titles! At 20 bucks a movie that is around $1,000 for a HD-ROM disc. Ouch! HD-ROM will have a niche high end position now or when it is ready and it *may* have a place in the mass market Jock but later, later, much later...

And I would not say *junk*. It is interesting and LSI does do high end storage and has a large number of design wins here. So definitely of interest!

Shane.
