Mark:
Dell seems to be performing along the broadly expected course, a
great run-up to earnings, followed by a drop-off for perhaps a matter of weeks, and which has repeated itself at least three times.
There has been lots of discussion of the hazards of
margins and the risks of short term options plays. The Oct drop of
close to 30% was reminder of what can happen but Dell came thru it
all with flying colors.
So I hope as you do that we are prepared (mentally) for some furthur tankage. But the bleak times are the times to buy the stock, and that requires a bullish attitude which has been well rewarded and
there have been no change yet in Dell company fundamentals despite
adjacent company problems.
The average life of a Dell bear is fairly short, some last a few days, tougher ones a few weeks. And the Dow proceeding up from 7600
does not help much. But factual negative comments are always welcome.
There is a lot of speculation on the effect of pricing
in the computer industry, but no firm figures on whether the high end
prices will be affected enough to cause Dell profit margins to
decay, since there is no way to tell how much cheaper the component costs will be today as opposed to last week or last month.
