Twists and Turns

Miles to go
before I sleep,
where forgotten
memories seep,
dusty country roads,
feet kicking up
little devils of dust,
diamond stars
twinkle and blink,
warm waves crash
on hushed
sandy shores,
where two lovers
stroll in dark velvet,
hands link,
two hearts in tune,
climb the mountain
tested and tried,
ink black peak
not easily scaled,
unearthed memory
buried in deep recess
of ancient tombs,
miles to go
before I sleep,
twisting and turning,
each one a
heartache.
