John,

Name of the company is QLT Phototherapeutics.

A good starting point is the SI thread at:

Subject 5265

IR rep is Elayne Wandler who may be contacted at ewandler@qlt-pdt.com
if you would like an investor's kit or have other queries.

The treatment is a light sensitive drug which is activated by a non thermal laser. AMD drug is called Verteporfin (BPD-MA). Cancer treatment drug is called Photofrin.

I believe the treatment is effective for the wet form of AMD (about 2.5M new cases annually in the developed world). Essentially the abnormal capillaries which cause the macular scarring absorb the Verteporfin and then are destroyed by the reaction of the drug with the laser. Treatment needs to be repeated every 3 months. This prevents the scarring of the macula.

(Note: Healthcare is not my field of expertise. My description may not be medically precise.)

Doing an AltaVista search on either the company or the drug names should produce a variety of interesting sites to view.

Good luck,

Ian.
