The ramp-up in DVD disc sales is exciting, and sales have increased more rapidly than expected. It appears that DVD-ROM sales are rapidly increasing, but we don't have any firm numbers yet.

We do have firm numbers on the street prices for DVD-ROM drives. In the 3/16/98 PC WEEK, a Toshiba DVD IDE drive is listed for $139. The Toshiba 32X CD-ROM drive is $99. Only a $40 premium for DVD, without an MPEG2 decoder. cstar.com

Bason Computer has slapped its name on a $289 DVD kit with a Toshiba drive, Cinemaster board (I think that CUBE is in the Cinemaster board), and a DVD movie -- the BC DVD-1002. basoncomputer.com
