Now what's the use for this huge bandwidth? Well, as communication becomes a fundamental enabler in society, just about everything like roaming telephony, videoconferencing, Internet access, messaging, faxing, telemedicine, distance learning and host of other activities can be done with ease and flexibility.
There is an old saying which has been changed to fit in with the times: You can never be too thin, too rich, or have too much bandwidth<GGG>
Technologies such as those described in the article will require immense computing power, and probably more importantly, will give us bigger pipes(Read: bandwith) so a Merced may not even cut it! The future is not as far away as many think.
